The Upgrade You Almost Rejected: Lessons in Letting Go, Trusting Change, and Embracing What’s Next

Change is something I talk about often - maybe we can blame my Scorpio stellium for that (haha) - but also because it's relevant to everything. We witness it constantly, sometimes quietly, sometimes all at once. Whether we’re conscious of it or not, we are always evolving.

Lately, the energy of change has been loud - showing up in conversations with strangers, family members, and during meditations. I’ve felt it ripple through symbols and moments that once seemed random. One day, I was reminded of a time I had an opportunity to purchase a new car and another time when I bought a home. I thought the memory was about the material milestone... but Spirit had something else to show me.

It wasn’t about the purchase. It was about the pattern.

Letting go isn’t always about loss — sometimes it’s about stepping into alignment with who you’re becoming.

Let Me Tell You a Story

Once upon a time, I was offered a chance to buy a new car.

No money down. No payments for three months. Rebates. Refunds. No strings attached. All I had to do was say yes and build the car.

Easy, right?

Well, the Libra in me said, “Wait a minute!”

I stalled. I got stuck between two exterior colors. Two interior finishes. I analyzed every optional package, weighing pros and cons like my life depended on it. Eventually, I agreed - but not without overthinking and a few existential side quests. I also had to drive 3.5 hours (each way!) to pick it up.

You’d think I’d be excited, but I wasn’t. Not fully. I had to convince myself to get excited. Everything around me was saying “go for it,” but my energy wasn’t aligned.

I finally arrived, got in, inhaled the new car smell, even pulled off some of the protective tape - but I felt off. Some of the features I had requested were missing, and though I tried not to let it bother me, I caught myself missing my old car on the way home. Yep… that quick.

My old car was reliable, sleek, and had some bells and whistles the new one didn’t. We had a bond. At one point I even considered returning the new one...

But instead, I sat with it.

The car was sexy. It had potential! I reminded myself that even though we got off on the wrong foot, maybe we could build a relationship - even if it was temporary. I was still adjusting. Still attached to what had been.

But I knew I had to let go.

The Deeper Message

What Spirit was showing me was the very human and very spiritual resistance we often have to change - even when it’s an upgrade.

This car symbolized something bigger:

A new chapter.

A new identity.

A new version of me.

I was on the last sentence of the last page of a chapter of a book that I knew I wouldn't reopen.

It wasn’t just a transaction - it was a death and rebirth moment. The end of one cycle. The beginning of another.

And I was still trying to drive forward while staring in the rearview mirror.

Why Change Can Be So Hard

Newness is exciting - until we realize we can’t go back. And when there’s nothing left to fall back on, it can feel overwhelming. So we cling....

To people.

To routines.

To old narratives.

To outdated identities.

But the longer we cling, the longer it takes to truly move forward.

At the time, I was also moving into a new home. Shedding old clothes. Letting go of connections. Making space in both my physical world and my emotional body.

The car - my baby - was like the final piece.

And with every adjustment to this car: the mirrors, the seat, the radio

I realized I was adjusting to a new reality.

A life that demanded more of me.

A self that was ready to receive more.

Even if I wasn’t quite “in love” with it yet.

From Symbol to Shift

That car reflected all the opportunities, upgrades, and divine assignments my higher self already agreed to. It was my ego that wasn’t ready to release the familiar. But Spirit said, “No more stalling. We’re going!”

Over time, I missed my old car less. I stopped comparing and started noticing what I liked about the new one. It wasn’t perfect. But in many ways, it was better. It wasn't my dream car, just like this phase of life might not be the dream just yet. But it was still an upgrade.

It reminded me: The best is still on the way.

Trust the Process

This entire experience was a lesson in detachment, surrender, and acceptance. Rejecting the car could’ve signaled to the Universe that I wasn’t ready to receive what I had been asking for. And let’s be real - how many of us are praying for the new while resisting the very thing that’s meant to lead us there?

This was my final test before entering a new cycle - one that demanded I leave behind not only things, but identities I had outgrown.

The past wasn’t wrong. It was just complete.

Cosmic Clarity: Tarot, Numerology & Symbolism

During this reflection, I saw the Chariot tarot card in my mind's eye, which is symbolic of movement, momentum, and aligned willpower. I found this fitting, since the Chariot is also connected to the number 7 - my life path number and the numerology of the new home I moved into.

On top of that, my new license plate ended in the angel number 4444, which breaks down to 16 (4+4+4+4) and further into the number 7 (1+6) - Crazy right!

The only two cards in the original Rider-Waite Tarot deck that depict movement by vehicle are the Chariot and the Six of Swords - both representing successful transitions, spiritual maturity, and guidance toward better after difficulty.

This car wasn’t just a car. It was confirmation that I was aligned, that I was being guided, and that I was in flow...that I was ready.

The Perfect Opportunity

Whatever “new” you’re stepping into, whether a home, a relationship, a career, a mindset shift, view it like breaking in a new car.

• You may miss the old neighborhood.

• You may still think about your ex.

• You might not love the upgrades yet.

But this is your opportunity to co-create what’s next.

You get to customize your alignment. You get to write the script. You’re not starting over you’re starting evolved.

So be mindful: don’t cling to that old couch just because it holds memories if your spirit is asking you to build new ones.

Nostalgia is sweet but growth is sweeter.

You’re Closer Than You Think

Here’s the real truth: change is often the response to the very thing you asked for.

• You asked to make more money and lost the job that wasn’t aligned.

• You asked for real love and the truth about your relationship came out.

• You asked for purpose and started bumping into the right people, books, or hard realizations.

You may not understand it yet, but every detour is connected to your destiny.

That’s why we’re told over and over: Trust the process. Trust your intuition. Trust your path.

When the New Feels Overwhelming

Change often feels overwhelming because we’re trying to approach it with fear instead of curiosity. What if you stopped thinking of it as starting from scratch and started seeing it as building your next masterpiece?

You’re not being punished. You’re being upgraded. You’re not stuck. You’re in the creative space between endings and beginnings. This is where you get to decide what features to keep, what decals (habits) to drop, and what new smells (energies) to welcome in.

You are not who you were, and that’s something to celebrate!
