Surrender the Resistance: 10 Ways to Break Free from Fear and Embrace the Path Meant for You

Change is inevitable. Growth is optional. ~ John C. Maxwell

Change and transformation – they’re inevitable thresholds we all face, often more than once. It’s like a personal judgment day – a moment when life places a mirror in front of us and asks: Are you really living in alignment with who you are becoming?

Some of us might say yes. Life feels good – comfortable, even stable. But that comfort can become a trap. And when it does, the Universe steps in with what some call a tower moment – a sacred shake-up designed not to destroy you, but to wake you up. It’s the Divine snapping you back to reality and saying, 'This version of the good life isn’t the life you were born to lead.'

Others of us already know we need a change. We feel the restlessness – the call, the sense that we’re meant for more. But when the moment to rise finally comes, we freeze. We procrastinate. We resist – even as the thing we asked for stares us in the face.

Yes, these shake-ups can feel unfair. They tear apart our routines, our plans, our sense of control. But they also serve as way-showers – sacred interventions that reveal new doors we wouldn’t have seen when we were spiritually asleep.

And even when the door is right in front of us – wide open – we hesitate. We walk the whole hallway. We stand outside the threshold. And instead of stepping through, we ring the doorbell. Play with the welcome mat. Look for a window. Maybe even hope for a different door altogether.

Meanwhile, the Divine is watching shaking their head like: You asked for this. You’re ready. So why are you still standing outside?

RESISTANCE, PROCRASTINATION & THE TGTBT SYNDROME

The truth is – this is more common than we think.

Sometimes our path feels so jarring, so heavy with detours and emotional weight, that when clarity finally comes… we doubt it. We freeze. We second-guess. We fall into what I call TGTBT Syndrome – “too good to be true.” Deep down, we know we’re meant to prosper. We know karma’s on our side. But some part of us struggles to believe that the vision we’ve been shown is truly ours – that we’re not just making it all up.

But let me remind you – you’re not.

We are meant to dream. And not just dream – but dream bigger. And when those dreams begin to manifest into reality, we shouldn’t shrink or apologize. We shouldn’t feel guilty for our blessings. There is no shame in receiving what your spirit has aligned for. The opposite of resistance is surrender. And on the other side of procrastination? Faith in action.

If you’ve been asking for a way – trust the one that’s been shown to you. As long as it’s aligned with light, you can trust that it’s right.

What you want wants you – but only you can make the first move. So have the courage to go get it.

I know, I know – easier said than done. Let’s face it – between stress, anxiety, trauma, undiagnosed PTSD (no offense to those navigating it clinically), excusitis (as David Schwartz called it), and all the dysfunctional programming we’ve picked up from the world around us… it’s a lot.

You might need therapy. You might need a breakdown. You might need a fed-up moment that shifts everything. Could be…

Or maybe, just maybe – all you need right now is a stronger connection. A deeper trust in your divine team – whether you call it God, the Universe, your ancestors, your higher self, or simply inner wisdom. Maybe the key to unlocking that door isn’t another effort – but a surrender.

Because here’s the question: What are we really resisting, aside from the unknown?

From what I’ve learned, the longer we resist, the more we give power to the shadows of uncertainty. Stagnation does not lead us to our goals – or our needs. It only dims the path forward.

And psychology backs this up. Research shows that procrastinators often carry lingering guilt, shame, or anxiety tied to the very act of delay (Shiraev, 2016). The more we procrastinate, the weaker our self-discipline becomes – and the wider the gap grows between our intentions and our actions.

So again – what are you waiting for?

RESIST THE URGE TO RESIST

No matter how shaky your nerves or how uncertain your circumstances may seem, remember this: you are ready for all that you've been asking for. The Divine knows it, and deep down, so do you. Each step, each lesson, each heartbreak or breakthrough has prepared you for this moment. So instead of bracing for the worst, get ready to celebrate. The Divine said: you earned this - not just through trials, but through triumph.

You may still feel fragile. Protective. Unsure. And that’s okay. Be loyal to your heart and nurture who you are becoming - not who you used to be. That old version of you? Much of it was shaped by expectation, projection, survival. Now is the time to be for YOU. Think for YOU. Want for YOU. Act for YOU. Plant your seeds. Water your garden. Trust the harvest will come.

Here are a few ways to gently begin surrendering and stop resisting the good that is already yours:

1. Resolve not to be your own worst enemy

Self-sabotage often masks itself as "being realistic," but what it's really doing is feeding the subconscious fear that you're not worthy or ready. Watch your thoughts. Question your stories. And remember: if you're not ready to move, at least commit. Even one step signals to your spirit team, I'm willing.

2. Understand your patterns

Look it up. Seriously. Are you someone who needs control? Are you addicted to knowing every detail before you act? Learn about procrastination as a passive coping method. Get curious about avoidance. When you name the fear, you reduce its power.

3. Trust YOUR path, YOUR process, and YOUR intuition

It doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s. Divine timing is not a myth. It’s just not synced with human expectation. Your dreams are yours for a reason — no one else is meant to carry them. Tune into your intuition and let it lead. Let faith interrupt your doubt.

4. Clear your crown chakra & connect with your superconscious

You’ve heard of the conscious and subconscious. But above that lies the superconscious, or what Dandapani describes as "the all-knowing intelligence of the soul." Begin to replace the hypercritical voice of the superego (formed from outdated societal standards) with the expansive wisdom of your higher self. Prayer, energy work, breathwork, and writing can help open this channel.

5. Try something new

If you’re stuck, shake things up. A small change (a new video, a new space, a new routine) can break energetic stagnation. It doesn’t have to be perfect. It just has to be done. Progress builds momentum, and momentum builds confidence. Do the thing you are afraid to do!

6. Adopt a spirit ally

Animals, flowers, crystals, even words can serve as anchors for what you're embodying. Think lion for courage, butterfly for transformation, owl for wisdom, or lotus for rebirth. Let them guide your energy and intentions.

7. Stay inspired on purpose

Read the quotes. Watch the talks. Revisit your notes. Turn your goals into affirmations and stick them where you can see them. If something drains or distracts you, unfollow it, unplug from it, or put it on pause. You don’t have time to forget who you are.

8. Connect with your squad

Your Spirit Team is always available. Whether it’s your ancestors, angels, God, Goddess, or simply your higher self - you can reach out. If meditation isn’t your thing, try sitting in silence, writing a letter, or going on a walk and speaking your thoughts aloud. Ask. Then listen.

9. Write it down and speak it daily

Make your purpose visible and vocal. Dry erase markers on the mirror, vision boards, affirmation cards — whatever works. Keep your desires in your field so they can signal your conscious, subconscious, and superconscious minds to align with your vision.

10. Identify your top 3 + add your own

From this list, pick three that resonate. Then add two of your own. The best answers will always come from within. Your intuition knows what will work for you.

You have a mission — should you choose to accept it. And chances are, it won’t leave you alone until you do. As Carl Jung said, "What you resist, persists." You might take another route, but that vision? It will keep tapping you on the shoulder. Let this be the season you turn around, open the door, and finally walk through.
